Nostradamus - Time Travel and Prophecies
how could we use time travel? Is time travel a technology that has practical uses? Would changing the past be an option?

Applications for Time Travel

Up to now it is taken for granted that future scientists will do the utmost not to introduce changes into the past. The nature of the message would be at most meant to manipulate the receiving individual to write some kind of document that would prove the receipt of the message. The resulting document is therefore only for the scientists. The rest of the document serves to elude contemporary hackers. The idea is that smart future scientists would not send anything to the past that could be used to change the course of history.

The purpose of sending messages through time as described above would be to prove the theory of time travel and the correct functioning of the necessary devices. The impact on the world and the consequences of playing with time would likely be minimal.

If the scientists would prove that sending messages to the past is something that can be done, politicians and decision makers are the ones that might want to use it. But why would future decision makers ever want to risk using a technology that changes the past? How bad does an event have to be in order to justify changing history and preventing it from happening?

Any changes made to past history will introduce a new chain of events that did not exist in the first place. It is not only a single event that gets changed but also all related ones. A technology that can change past history is therefore potentially disastrous.

The future decision makers know the history of men because they are part of it themselves, it might have been a very tough history but humanity has survived. Scientists have invented time travel and are capable to send prophecies to the past, which indicates that they must have reached a high level of technology. How do future decision makers then come to the conclusion that it is justified changing their own past and jeopardize all that they have achieved? Why would they still want to go ahead and take the risk of changing their own history and possibly wipe out their own existence?
